I wanted to share the final touches to our front door at the beach house. We have just had a Barn Light Australia wall sconce installed. It is powder coated so I’m hoping it will withstand all the elements. We previously had a temperamental spotlight on a sensor and were literally left in the dark fumbling for the keys.
Although the front door area is small, I have tried to create a welcoming first impression. Here are some of my tips for How To Create Front Door Appeal.
1. Paint The Front Door
To really add that wow factor and make a great first impression, paint your front door a colour that complements your house exterior. One of my most pinned images from my Pinterest Front Doors board, this soft blue suggests a beachy, relaxed vibe.
And I don’t think it always needs to be a bright colour. I love a black door against a white exterior. This is the colour I will most likely choose for our new build.
2. Symmetrical Greenery
If you have the space, flanking the front door with two matching pots on either side is one of my favourite looks. Fill the pots with a low maintenance evergreen hedge.
Or if you fancy yourself as a green thumb (not me!), a topiary tree can add some interest.
3. Ambient Lighting
Appropriate lighting near the front door is not only practical, it creates a soft ambience at night. Use a wall light adjacent to the front door or pendant above it for a welcoming entrance for visitors. This incredible entrance below belongs to Gwyneth Paltrow.
4. Door Hardware and Doormats
Beautiful door hardware such as a handle or knocker can be the icing on the cake. I can’t wait to see my pineapple door knocker that I bought in the U.S. on our new front door.
A colourful or interesting doormat can add some personality to the space.
